Trouble in Tennessee

Watch out...Trouble's coming to town!

At the request of her pregnant sister, former bad girl Treble James, an Atlanta deejay, does the unthinkable: returns home to Joyous, Tennessee.  She tells herself that she's only there to help temporarily, so it doesn't matter what the townspeople think of her or whether she ever makes peace with her disapproving father.

But Treble's in for a few surprises...starting with the town's gorgeous new doctor.  Keith Caldwell has heard all the stories that should warn him away, yet he  can't resist getting closer to this sassy, Southern girl.

Excerpted from Trouble in Tennessee:

Keith lifted a hand as if to touch her face, but dropped his arm quickly back to his side.  "It's nice to see you smile. I figured after what I said the other night..."

"About how if I didn't watch my mouth I'd be the ruination of my family and put my sister in the hospital?" Treble paraphrased. "I've forgiven you." More or less. After all, he had been trying to protect Charity and they had that in common.

He had the grace to look abashed.  "I'm surprised you're taking it so well."

"Even bad girls have their reasonable moments."  Leaving him to ponder that, she sauntered toward the parking lot.

It only took him a couple of strides to catch up with her.  "You need a trained medical professional to walk with you.  Catch one of those high heels in a sidewalk crack, you're gonna require X-rays."

"You don't like my shoes?"  Figured. They were one of her favorite pairs.

"I shouldn't like your shoes.  You know what repeated wear of heels like that can do to your knees and feet?  But..."

"But?"

His gaze went to her legs, and her body tingled as if he'd actually slid his hands over her thigh.  "But," he said softly, meeting her eyes again.  There was no need for him to finish the sentence.  Words would be redundant, and she couldn't imagine the mere syllables that would accurately capture the heat in his expression.

Treble's lips parted, and her heart thundered.

She'd been known to make a reckless decision or two in her day, but surely she wasn't stupid enough to kiss this man, this friend of her family who already had plenty of reason to disapprove of her, right here on the streets of Joyous?
